PIL opposing Route Privatisation filed, HC to hear RTC case today

In yet another legal hitch, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) had been filed challenging the decision of the state government to privatise the RTC Bus routes in the state.

According to the details, the retired Professor and convenor of Telangana Democratic Front PL Visweshwar Rao challenged the cabinet decision in the High Court to issue 5,100 route permits to private parties. He alleged that the state government had taken the decision in haste without following the norms. “the cabinet has taken a decision to privatise routes in hurry to scuttle the ongoing RTC strike which is in violation of Section 45 of the RTC Act 1950 that empowers RTC to decide on any change it intends to make in its administration”, he pointed out.

In the meantime, the High Court is slated to hear the arguments on the RTC strike today. As per its earlier orders, the GHMC, Transport and RTC have submitted their affidavits with regard to the detailed economic position pertaining to their dues to RTC. It is also expected that the High Court might come to a conclusion on the RTC issue today and might deliver some kind of orders to this effect.
