The polling for the 475 assembly segements in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry besides the Phase-3 polling in Assam and West Bengal concluded peacefully.
The poll per centage recorded highest in Assam 3rd phase polls with 78.94% of voting recorded till 5 pm today where as 77.68% was registered in West Bengal.
Similarly, Puducherry recorded the highest poll percentag of 77.90% followed by Kerala 69.95% and Tamil Nadu 64.92%.
The polling was held for over 140 assembly constituencies in Kerala while for 234 in Tamilnadu and 30 constituencies in Puducherry.
However in 3rd phase the elections were held for 40 assembly segments in Assam and 31 in West Bengal.
The Election Commission of India, however, has informed that as per standard procedure all these EVMs and VVPATs had already undergone First Level Checking, Randomisation, and Commissioning in the presence of Political Parties and Candidates agents. During FLC and during commissioning each of these EVMs and VVPATs had undergone mock polls. Today before the start of the poll each of the EVMs and VVPATs again underwent a mock poll in the presence of polling agents of the candidates with a minimum of 50 votes cast on each, as per the standard procedure. At the end of the mock poll, the result of EVM was matched with the result of VVPAT slips and shown to the polling agents. The non-functioning rate during the mock poll is lesser than comparable or experienced in the last few polls.
As a major push for conducting free and fair elections, the ECI said live monitoring and webcasting of more than 50% of Polling Stations including critical and vulnerable polling booths have been put in place as per ECI norms, to ensure a safe and secure atmosphere in polling areas. Commission, CEOs, DEOs, Observers could watch live streaming and keep a close watch on these polling booths.
948 Crore seized in 5 states
During the ongoing elections till this phase, a record seizure of Rs.947.98 Crore has already been achieved from the five states as of April 6, 2021. The seizure figure, which includes seizure of cash, liquor, narcotics, freebies etc., is more than 4.198 times higher than the total combined seizure of Rs. 225.77 Crore in GE LA 2016.
The Commission has been laying specific emphasis on In order to curb the inducement free elections and the malaise of undue money power, liquor, freebies in the elections, the Commission has deployed a total of 4606 Flying Squads and 4670 Static Surveillance Teams (SST) were operationalised to check movement of cash, liquor, drugs & freebies in these states closely supervised by DEOs, Expenditure observers in Districts and Special observers.
A total of 19 Air Intelligence Units (AIU) of the IT Department were also set at different stations in Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
