Ram Vilas Paswan dies after heart surgery, KCR condoles demise


In an unfortunate development, the Union Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs Ram Vilas Paswan breathed his last while undergoing treatment for his heart ailment in New Delhi a few minutes from now.


Paswan who is 74 has been recently admitted to the Fortis hospital in New Delhi and underwent heart surgery which is the third time for him. He was on Ventilator for some time now. His son Chiran Paswan tweeted to this effect a few minutes ago saying “Papa I miss you. I know wherever you are you are with me”.

An 8-time Lok Sabha member and Rajya Sabha MP, Paswan has emerged as one of the leading Dalit leaders in the country and headed the Lok Janashakati Party (LJS) since 2000 and emerged a force to reckon with. He started his political career in 1969 as a member of Samyukta Socialist Party and elected to the Bihar assembly. Later he joined Lok Dal and later became Janata Party member and won from Hajipur constituency and was chosen continuously in 1980, 1989, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2004 and 2014.

Telangana Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao has expressed deep shock over the demise of union minister Ram Vilas Paswan. The CM recalled that Ram Vilas Paswan stood by the Telangana Separate statehood movement. The CM said that Ram Vilas Paswan is remembered as a Political leader and social reformer in Indian History. He conveyed his condolences to the family of Paswan and members of his party.
