Telangana Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao has urged the Union government to rename the city-based Central University after the late Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao.
In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi here today, Chief Minister said it would be a fitting tribute to rename the University popularly known as Hyderabad University in his name especially during the centenary celebrations being held in the state. Terming him as the proud son of not just Telangana but the multi-faceted son of India who ushered economic reforms to bring the stagnant economy to a trajectory of growth during an unprecedented economic crisis in 1991.
CM also brought to the notice of the PM that Central University was set up in Hyderabad in 1971 as a result of the 1969 Telangana movement under the 6-point formula. “His contribution to education policy and setting up of Navodaya Schools at the national level was a radical step to provide quality education to meritorious poor students from rural areas”, he said.
