All efforts to pull the 3-year-old Sanjay Sai Vardhan from the borewell proved futile with the NDRF teams recovering his dead body after 12 hours of rescue operations in Podchanpally village under Papannapet Mandal in Siddipet district.
It may be recalled, the boy was accidentally slipped into the borewell hole in an agriculture land belongs to his grandfather at around 6 pm yesterday. The parents and grandparents of the boy were there at the site while returning home after the drilling works are over. The incident occurred after the boy who was walking holding his grandpa’s hand unexpectedly rushed back to the borewell only to fall into it.
The rescue operations that followed the incident went on for 12 hours but in vain. The NDRF teams who were pressed into service have dug an open well parallel to the existing borewell and recovered the body in the early hours today. A palm of gloom prevailed in the village.
The incidents of borewells eating away children have been recurring time and again despite government issuing his strict regulations to be followed. Earlier, the CM KCR has even issued a GO in this regard making it a cognisable offence to leave the borewells uncapped.
