Funeral procession of Col Santosh Babu who laid down his life fighting the enemy at the Indo-China border has begun in Suryapet with large number people lined up to pay homage to the departed hero.
The military officials brought the coffin containing the body of Col Santosh accompanied by his wife Santoshi at Hakimpet airport last night. The body was then taken to his native Suryapet to enable his family members to perform last rites in their farmland.
Elaborate arrangements have been made to take out the body in procession to the farmland at 6 km away from the city. A large number of people gathered on both sides of the road enroute showering flower petals on the military truck carrying the body of Col Santosh. A palm of gloom prevailed in the state with the supreme sacrifice of Col Santosh.
Earlier, Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, Minister KTR, Malkajgiri MP Revanth Reddy and several others have received the body at the Hakimpet military airbase from where the body was taken to Suryapet. The dignitaries have expressed their condolences to the bereaved wife of Santosh.
In a few minutes from now, the last rites of Col Santosh would be held in Suryapet amidst state and military honours.
