The Pune-based Serum Institute of India is set to produce 100 million Coronavirus vaccine does both for India and other low-income countries.
The CEO of Serum Institute Adar Poonawalla declared through a tweet here today that his company is able to make it through a strategic partnership with Gavi and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation who will be investing a US150 million. This risk funding will be made to Gavi which will support SII to manufacture potential vaccine candidates.
“The funding will support at-risk manufacturing by SII for candidate vaccines from AstraZeneca and Novavax, which will be available for procurement at US$ 3 per dose if they are successful in attaining full licensure and WHO prequalification,” SII said in a statement.
Industry sources said that his statement has come in the wake of reports that both the vaccines of SII AstraZeneca and Novavax candidates are said to be in the final stages of clinical trials.
