The Director-General of Environmental Protection Training and Research Institute (EPTRI) Parthasarathy has launched a short term certificate training course in conserving bio-diversity and environment protection from February 14-29, 2020.
Launching the programme here in EPTRI campus today, the DG said Government of India the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC) has initiated the Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP) under Environment and Forest sector on May 14, 2018, to provide Employment & Entrepreneur skills to youth across the country.
The GSDP has more than 44 certificate courses and training programmes to offer skill enthusiasts across the country to enhance their green skills. He said this training programme has been designed in such a way that students will understand the importance of natural resources and how to value it in terms of monetary and how to conserve them.
“The course is essential as there is a huge loss of biodiversity in terms of habitat loss, climate change, pollution, land-use change, invasive alien species. Hence, there is a need to evaluate the ecosystem services as it builds on traditional valuation approaches by explicitly considering the environment as a whole – bringing together land, water, air, soil and biodiversity. This course will provide competency to the candidates in assessing the ecosystem and how to evaluate it”, he concluded.
