Southern Zonal Council Meets After 2 Years Gap, Finalises 64 Public Interest Issues




Hyderabad, Nov.19 (Telemedia) : The eigth Standing Committee Meeting of the Southern Zonal Council which held here in the city on Wednesday discussed over 64 public interest issues and finalised them after a detailed scrutiny only to be on placed as agenda items for the forth coming Southern Council meeting to be chaired by Chief Ministers of member states under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister. The meeting is likely to be held in Hyderabad sometime in December.

 The meeting was attended by Chief Secretaries of all southern states including Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretaries Rajiv Sarma and Krishna Rao, respectively, besides heads of over 14 central government departments.  The Standing Committee discussed several important issues such as poverty alleviation, environmental issues, rural development especially Housing, Railways, Power transmission, Road Transport, Industrial Corridor, Railway corridor, Goods & Service Tax (GST), tourism etc.

 The meeting assumed significance as it was held after a two and half years gap in the wake of new Central Government’s focus to reconstitute the Zonal Councils and establish cooperation of the states for effective centre-state relations.
