The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has announced its state party president L Ramana as its candidate for the Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar graduate council elections to be held on March 14.
A decision to this effect was taken by the party coordination committee here at NTR bhavan today in which a discussion was also taken as to whom to extend support in the Nalgonda-Khammam-Warangal constituency as the party is not fielding anyone there. TDP leader Aravind Kumar said that a decision would be taken soon on this after discussing with the party chief Chandrababu Naidu.
The TRS has fielded late PV’s daughter Surabhi Vani Devi for Hyderabad segment for which the sitting MLC Ramachandra Rao from BJP, and former 2-time MLC Prof Nageshwar Rao have already filed their nominations besides Congress candidate G Chinna Reddy.
However, the ruling TRS has been losing this key segment since its formation in 2007 as Prof Nageshwar Rao emerged winner each time with the support of the left parties. BJP’s Ramachandra Rao, however, emerged the winner in the last elections over his nearest TRS candidate and former NGO leader Devi Prasad in 2015. This time TRS has chosen Vani Devi as its candidate and being all of them in the fray this time, Ramana is all set to try his luck.
The Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar constituency has over 5,17,883 graduate voters while Nalgonda-Khammam-Warangal segment has over 1,16,704 votes.
