The senior IPS officer and the Director of Telangana Police Academy Vinay Kumar Singh tendered his resignation from his service today. He has sent a copy of his resignation reportedly to the Director-General of Police Mahender Reddy and the Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The 1987 batch police officer who is to retire on November 30th this year was unhappy with the way the government has been treating him. He had rather openly went on record that he was eligible for the post of DGP and shot a letter to this effect to both Chief Secretary and the Chief Minister last month.
However, his resignation came today following the government’s recent decision to promote 4 IPS officers who are much junior to him to the rank of Additional Director General.
The straight forward and the outspoken police officer has landed in controversies many a time with his controversial remarks against the government and media. His recent remarks against government’s spending on the State Police Academy which he termed as a waste of money, has stirred a hornet’s nest.
Earlier he picked up a tiff with HMTV Telugu news channel and booked a case against their reporters in a sandalwood smuggling case.
