The government of Telangana received 5 national awards in this connection on June 24 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. Union Minister Jal Shakti, Drinking water & Sanitation Gajendrasing Shekawath and Secretary Parameshwar Iyer have together distributed awards to the winners.
Chief Secretary Shailendra Kumar Joshi congratulated the State and districts administration for achieving these awards and advised to work hard and to achieve more awards in the future under Swachh Bharat Mission.
Telangana State Individual Household Latrines (IHHLs) coverage as on 2nd October 2014 is at 27.34%. Since then the Telangana State Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) has constructed 30.06 lakhs IHHLs and the coverage as on date is 98.30%.
Out of 32 districts, 16 districts have already been declared as Open Defecation Free (ODF) districts and the state Mission is striving hard to achieve ODF Telangana by the end of July 2019.
As part of Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) the Ministry of DWS, GoI has launched “Swachh Sunder Shauchalaya 2019” contest held from January 1st -31st, 2019 wherein the Telangana state has bagged Five 5 National Awards for the beautification of 26.71 lakh toilets and 9,283 schools toilets in 11000 villages across the state.
