The city police have foiled an attempt to make Wajudinagar in Barkas yet another Shaheen Bagh in Hyderabad.
In continuation of yesterday’s attempt, several Muslim organisations who have been staging a protest opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National People’s Register (NPR) dharna at Wajudinagar in the backward Chandrayangutta area have turned up again today only to be objected by the police who have camped since yesterday.
Cops yesterday have given them the notice to vacate the place before 10.30 pm last night as the dharna centre was located in Hari Dargah ground in Barkas. Police claim that they had to remove them after the Muthawalis of Dharga objected them to use the land belonging to the holy shrine for protests. However, protesters alleged that police have pressurised Mullahs to this effect. Cops after much persuasion with the 200-odd womenfolk to vacate the place.
The protesters at Wajudinagar again appeared this morning only to be prevented by the cops. But the police had to be tough owning to the violence in New Delhi this evening following which heavy police force including rapid action teams was deployed at many sensitive areas in and around the city.
There are 3 more many such dharna centres at Mehdipatnam, Toli Chowki and Moghulpura. But police could manage to disperse them. Cases also said to have lodged against some womenfolk for creating nuisance in the melee.
A police officer who doesn’t want to be named said they have cancelled all permissions to stage dharnas, rallies, protests etc. in any form until further orders.
