Hyderabad, Nov.17 (Telemedia) : Government of Telangana is contemplating to enhance the existing salary structure of the elected public representatives. In a review meeting held in secretariat here today, the Chief Minister opined that the MLAs and MLCs are unable to meet the growing expenditure being incurred in the process of executing their responsibilities as a public representatives. He said that most of the MLAs and MLCs are moving around in their own vehicles to attend all officials meetings, programmes, events be it in village, mandal, district or at state capital as and when required. The present salary of Rs.95,000 is not even sufficient for their maintenance. Hence, it requires hike to enable to make them financially comfortable as it would held them work sincerely without indulging in corrupt practices, he opined. The CM understood to have expressed his intention to hike the present salary to Rs.2 lakh each for both MLAs and MLCs , due to which, the state exchequer will have to bear an additional burden of Rs. 15 crore per annum aggregating to Rs. 30 crore annually.
Besides this, CM also felt that even the pension amount being given to former MLAs and MLCs should also be increased proportionately and asked the officials to work out proposals to pay allowances even to the Members of the Parliament representing the state as they too are finding it difficult with the meager payments being paid by the Center.
