Telangana State government has decided to name Tupakulagudem barrage after the tribal goddess ‘Sammakka’.

Issuing orders to this to the Engineer-in-Chief Muralidhar Rao today at Pragathi during a review meeting on Kaleswaram Project in view of his proposed visit on Thursday, Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao recollected how several other barrages and reservoirs built across Telangana in connection with Kaleshwaram project were named after various gods and goddesses.

He strongly believed that it is because of the warmth blessings showered by Sammakka Sarakka, the state is today reaping riches. “It would be our bounden duty to remind them in our day to day life”, he opined.

He wanted irrigation officials to take measures to pump out the waters from Pranahita to Laxmi barrage and from their to other tributaries from time to time in order to maintain the storage levels so that all barrages should be full. This would help utilise more waters during rainy.

The others who attended the review meeting include Ministers Gangula Kamalakar, Puvvada Ajay Kumar, MLC Palla Rajeswar Reddy, Advisors Rajiv Sarma, CMO Secretary Smitha Sabharwal, CMO OSD Sridhar Rao Deshpande etc.
