Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President and Nalgonda MP Capt N Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that the public healthcare system in Telangana has completely collapsed and for the same reason, the State Government was unable to control the Covid-19 situation.

He was speaking to media persons after inaugurating a photo-exhibition on the completion of Congress Legislature Party leader Bhatti Vikramarka’s 10-day State tour of government hospitals. Congress MLAs D. Sridhar Babu, Jagga Reddy, Seethakka Bhatti Vikramarka and others participated in the programme.

Describing the public healthcare condition as ‘pathetic’, he said that there was a huge shortage of doctors, nurses and other para-medical staff in all public hospitals treating Covid-19 patients in the State. The sanctioned posts of doctors, nurses and other staff were not filled and the existing staff was not provided required infrastructure and support to treat the Covid-19 patients.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the TRS Government was still trying to ‘manage’ Covid-19 situation by tampering with the statistics and creating the illusion of beating the disease. He said the Telangana High Court has pointed out the lapses in the public healthcare system on multiple occasions during the pandemic situation. However, the State Government did not take any measures to plug the loopholes. Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao did not even follow the suggestions made by Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan and treated those advices as political criticism.

The TPCC Chief said that the first case of Covid-19 was registered in Telangana in the month of March. Even after six months, the State Government did not improve testing facilities. He said that the World Health Organisation’s norm of ‘Track, Test & Treat’ was not followed in Telangana which led to the spread of Coronavirus in almost all areas of the State. He said it was due to the negligent attitude of KCR Govt that Covid-19 has spread to even small villages and hamlets.

Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that the public healthcare system was deliberately destroyed so as to benefit the private hospitals. He asked Health Minister Eatala Rajender to clarify on the announcement of the State Government taking over 50% Covid beds in private hospitals. He said that the Health Minister should name the private hospitals whose 50% beds were acquired and at what cost. He alleged that CM KCR and Health Minister Rajender were looting the people in the name of Coronavirus.

The TPCC Chief also slammed Eatala Rajender for the death of one Praveen Yadav, a DTP Operator in Huzurabad Govt Hospital. He alleged that the employee was forced to fudge the hospital’s statistics to show caesarean deliveries as natural births. On refusal, he was dismissed from service and implicated in a false case. He was allegedly subjected to third-degree torture by the police. He said Praveen Yadav was allegedly electrocuted which consequently led to his death. He said the role of Etala Rajender in Praveen Yadav’s death would be exposed if the Director-General of Police orders a fair probe.

Uttam Kumar Reddy praised CLP leader Bhatti Vikramarka for visiting the Covid-19 public hospitals across Telangana State for 10 days.

Speaking on the occasion, Bhatti Vikramarka said that all citizens of Telangana should be tested for Covid-19 and its treatment should be included under Aarogyasri Scheme. He demanded that more funds be allocated for the Health Department to deal with the situation. He said that the Congress leaders would meet Governor Dr Soundararajan and Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy to brief them about the pathetic conditions prevailing in public hospitals. He said if the State Government fails to react, then the Congress party would move the High Court. He said that he would raise the issue in the forthcoming Assembly session.
