A media meet has been called for unexpectedly a little while from now whereas the entire nation is awaiting the release of Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman who said to have reached the Pakistani side of the Wagah border a few minutes ago. He was brought to Wagah from Lahore amidst tight security with vehicles keep changing its positions in the convoy.
The Air Vice Marshal of IAF Ravi Kapoor has reportedly called for Media meet at 5.30 pm.
The IAF officials reportedly completed the formalities and medical check-ups are being conducted on him. However, it may take some more time for his release. It is expected that he may be handed over to the officials of either International Red Cross society or to the Indian Air Force authorities around 6 pm before the sunset takes place.
Meanwhile, a large number of people in thousands thronged the Wagah border to welcome the hero to his motherland. Military officials from both sides made elaborate security arrangements. Restrictions were imposed on both the media and the public. Barricades were erected a few yards away from the Indian side of the checkpost and the national and international media that landed at Wagah border struggling to air their version in their respective live updates.
Sources confirmed to this correspondent that Abhinandan was accompanied by Indian High Commission officials from Islamabad. He will enter India after completing formalities at Wagah. His parents have already reached Wagah in the afternoon and have been waiting since then.
