The Pak-captured Indian MiG-21 Pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman has returned to the motherland at 9.20 pm at last after a prolonged tense moment at the Wagah border today.
He was handed over to the IAF Group Captain Joy Thomas Kurien at the Wagah border at about 9.20 pm. He reached the border along with Director India in Pakistan’s Foreign Office Dr Fareha Bugti and he was handed over to IAF Group Captain Joy Thomas Kurien. Accompanied by his wife, the hero of the nation Abhinandan dignifiedly stepped into India and was taken away by the IAF military authorities to New Delhi by a special flight. He was accompanied by the by both Kurien and Dr Fareha Bugti.
Later speaking to media at the border check post, one of the IAF authorities announced that he was handed over to the IAF as per the standard operating procedure after the completion of prolonged formalities. “IAF is happy to have him back”, he announced that he would be taken to New Delhi for complete medical check-up as he was under ‘great stress’ which is mandatory as per service rules.
Amritsar District Collector Shiv Dular Singh Dhillon stated that “We are happy to have him with us and we have not asked the Pakistani authorities anything other than his health”.
